Stere lived on the streets of Barcelona for six years after arriving in 1999 from his home in Romania, looking for a better life. He was promised a job and “papers” that never came. Despite finding occasional jobs in construction and hostels, he didn’t earn enough money to recover the stability he’d lost. “Life on the street is very hard and very sad. I don’t wish it on anyone. It is better to forget it even if it can’t be forgotten.” After seven years he was able to get off the street and now lives in a shared flat and enjoys a life of privilege to have a roof over his head. Neat, tidy, and ordered, he is a man calm and gentle man who enjoys reading and going on walks.
